CPR training and AED use

Time is the crucial element in surviving Sudden Cardiac Arrest (Heart stopping suddenly) and Choking. It is vital that people know how to perform CPR( Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and use an AED ( Automated External Defibrillator) an easily learned lifesaving skill. It will be too late to save somebody by the time the emergency services arrive.

  • Death occurs within 3 minutes of the heart stopping, time is critical, intervention must be immediate.
  • Approx 18 people die in Ireland EVERY DAY when their hearts stop. Approx 2 per week will be under 35yrs.( Heart problems affect children and young adults, not just older people)
  • 70% of Cardiac Arrests occur outside the hospital setting and survival is 1%.
  • By performing CPR immediatly and using an AED survival rate greatly increases
